OPENING SEPTEMBER 5

Irish Mountain Orchard will open for the season Wednesday, September 5.  Hours will again be 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.  We are closed Friday and Saturday.

Zestar! are the first apples to be picked, and they will be available when we open.  They are awesome...our family's favorite apple!  We have read that they actually beat Honey Crisp in blind taste tests.  If you haven't tasted them, please give them a try when you visit the orchard.  In the rush to have apples first, they are often picked before they are ready, and many people have told us they tried Zestar! and didn't like them.  When they try ours, they change their minds.  Dad tastes them every day when they get close to ripe, and he waits until they are at their very best before we start harvesting!  They look absolutely wonderful this year, and I can't wait to have one!

We expect the Honey Crisp to be ready and available about the middle of September.  Keep checking back; I will post as soon as we have them available.  They are still the favorite of most of our customers, and they are exceptional apples, too.  They are by far our biggest seller and have a well deserved stellar reputation!

Another favorite of many customers is the chestnut crab apple.  They are 1-2 inches in diameter, so they are small, but they are the perfect size for kids' snacks or when adults just want a small bite of perfect flavor.  They are a sweet crab apple and are REALLY good.  Again, ask for a sample...we usually have a bowl on the table for you to help yourself.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

The Apples are Growing!

Well, it's already the first of August, which means apple season will be here before we know it!  We just toured the orchard, and the apples are growing well (knock on wood).  Hopefully the weather will continue to be good, and we can harvest amazing apples again this year.

The earliest apples we grow are Zestar!, and they are fantastic.  I encourage you to stop in and sample them when we open...everyone in our family likes them better even than Honeycrisp.  And they have beat Honeycrisp in blind taste tests, as well.  They are an earlier apple, and that means they don't keep quite as well as some of the others; however,  they are absolutely delicious, and we stuff ourselves while they are available!

One of the reasons our apples are so good is that my dad, who owns the orchard, is determined not to pick them until they are at their peak.  He taste tests them every day as the time gets close; one of his pet peeves is that many times apples are picked before they are at that perfect stage.  We have had customers say they have tried Zestar! and don't like them...but they had purchased ones that were picked too early, and when they taste the really ripe ones, they love them.

Another favorite of many customers is Chestnut crab apples.  They are large for a crab apple and are sweet and really delicious.  They are the perfect size for a snack for kids, and adults love them, as well.  Be sure and ask about them when you visit the orchard.

And, of course, everyone is anxious for the Honeycrisp to be ready...they are the all time favorite for many people!

We look forward to welcoming you back this fall...check back in early September for our opening date.

CLOSING OCTOBER 31!

Tuesday, October 31 will be the last day open at Irish Mountain Orchard this season.

We will have Honey Crisp available until we close, so stock up on some to last through the holidays!  They will typically keep for a couple of months in the refrigerator if you check them periodically for spots and use those first.

We are sold out of Fireside, Pazzaz,  Zestar, Haralson, Stella and chestnut crabapples, as we had smaller amounts of them available.

We hope to see you at the orchard before we close.  Our thanks to all of our great customers for supporting us!  We really enjoy seeing some of you each year, and we enjoy meeting new customers, as well.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season!

Chestnut crab apples are ready!

For those of you who are waiting for the chestnut crab apples, they are ready and will be available beginning Sunday, September 10!

These little gems are probably my favorite of all our apples...they are sweet and tart and just the right size for a snack!  And the perfect snack for little ones who can't tackle a whole regular-sized apple!    If you haven't tried them, ask for a sample when you are at the orchard.

Irish Mountain Orchard Opening Sept. 3!

Irish Mountain Orchard will open for the season on Sunday, September 3!  The Zestars look amazing and will be the first apples available at that time.  For those of you who haven't tried them, we encourage you to do so...we like them better than Honey Crisp!  So when you are at the orchard, be sure and ask for a sample.

The pears also look good this year and will be available when we open.  They are becoming more and more popular as more of you try them and

We expect the Honey Crisp to be ready in a couple of weeks...watch for the notice,as I'll update as soon as we know when they will be ready.  Dad is checking every day...the key is patience until they are at the perfect ripeness.  That's what makes his apples taste SO good!

We look forward to seeing you!
