The Apples are Growing!

Well, it's already the first of August, which means apple season will be here before we know it!  We just toured the orchard, and the apples are growing well (knock on wood).  Hopefully the weather will continue to be good, and we can harvest amazing apples again this year.

The earliest apples we grow are Zestar!, and they are fantastic.  I encourage you to stop in and sample them when we open...everyone in our family likes them better even than Honeycrisp.  And they have beat Honeycrisp in blind taste tests, as well.  They are an earlier apple, and that means they don't keep quite as well as some of the others; however,  they are absolutely delicious, and we stuff ourselves while they are available!

One of the reasons our apples are so good is that my dad, who owns the orchard, is determined not to pick them until they are at their peak.  He taste tests them every day as the time gets close; one of his pet peeves is that many times apples are picked before they are at that perfect stage.  We have had customers say they have tried Zestar! and don't like them...but they had purchased ones that were picked too early, and when they taste the really ripe ones, they love them.

Another favorite of many customers is Chestnut crab apples.  They are large for a crab apple and are sweet and really delicious.  They are the perfect size for a snack for kids, and adults love them, as well.  Be sure and ask about them when you visit the orchard.

And, of course, everyone is anxious for the Honeycrisp to be ready...they are the all time favorite for many people!

We look forward to welcoming you back this fall...check back in early September for our opening date.
